Computational Psychiatry Postdoctoral Fellowship in Human Intracranial Neuroscience

The Computational Psychiatry Unit (www.neurocpu.org) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) seeks to fill a Postdoctoral Fellowship Position that focuses on human intracranial neuroscience. This is an exciting opportunity to combine computational modelling with intracranial data recorded directly from human participants, leveraging the existing intraoperative research platforms at the ISMMS. The research may be applied to elucidate the neurocomputational mechanisms of high-order cognition (e.g. value-based decision-making, social cognition) that are important for understanding psychiatric diseases such as addiction, depression, autism, and personality disorders.

 

Job requirements:
The successful candidate will participate in the following aspects of research in the lab, including:

  • Designing novel experiments to examine the neurocomputational basis of decision-making and social cognition

  • Overseeing project development and acquiring behavioural and neural data both in and out of the OR

  • Conducting computational modelling of cognitive and neural data

  • Preparing manuscripts and interpreting results independently, and presenting results at

    scientific meetings

  • Co-mentoring high school, undergraduate and graduate students

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will meet the following requirements, including:

  • A PhD degree in neuroscience, cognitive science, psychology, or any other experimental fields is required;

  • An ability to work well in multidisciplinary and highly collaborative clinical and research teams;

  • An interest in translational research between basic research and clinically relevant questions

  • A strong record or potential for scholarly productivity.

Experience with any of the following is not required, but preferred:

  • Electrophysiology data collection in non-human primates or rodents;

  • Research experience with neurological patients;

  • Programming skills (MATLAB, R, python, C++)

  • Signal processing and modelling experience with electrophysiological data

  • Computational modelling experience in any other domain.
